8 Sept This was the first day (Tuesday) of Spruce Meadows Masters. The All Canada ring starting at 8.15am in cold rain. It was a wet start to such beautifully set up grounds. Rained steady until mid afternoon leaving the International ring waterlogged at the start of the ARKITA DRILLING 1.50m class with 45 starters. Resulted in 9 clear rounds and 4 double clear. Next class was the FINNING CUP 1.60m class. Leopoldo shifted most jumps due to the damage to the ground from the previous class. He did an excellent job in difficult conditions resulting in 3 clear rounds. Won by Guy Williams from Gt Britain who was first to go in a very fast time of 40.02 and clear. See full result as shown above.
9 Sept 2010 Spruce Meadows day two, Wednesday. Not raining but quite cold in the morning with ground very wet. Two classes in the International ring not starting until 12.15pm. The 1.50m Table A class had 33 entries and resulted in 11 clear rounds. This was a rather high number of clear rounds for a Leopoldo Placious course. He increased the time by 4 seconds which did allow a few more clears. In the jump off 5 went clear with first place in 35.31s and 5th in 37.13.
The 1.60m class that followed resulted in 5 clear rounds out of 32 starters but just 2 clear in the jump off within a second of each other. Full results see http://www.sprucemeadows.com/tournaments go to “Masters” “Order of Go/Results”
10 Sept 2010 Friday at Spruce Meadows. The International ring gets a spell for most of the day. It gave the ground a chance to dry a little before 5.15pm, starting time for the 1.60m Table A Encana Cup competition over 13 fences and 570 metres in a time of 89 seconds. There were three clear rounds, with two double clear in the jump off over 8 fences in a time of 37.06 and 38.89.
The Six Bar was laid out across the front of the West Grandstand. It was appropriately sponsored by Atco Electric as it was jumped under floodlights as the sky darkened at 7.30pm. The competition ran over a total of four rounds, so it did not make the last jump off, but was a very good competition.
It was the evening of the horse with the Celle Hanoverian Stallions from Germany performing as they did each day and the evening ended with the traditional fireworks display.

11 Sept 2010 Saturday at Spruce Meadows in the International ring opened with the BP Cup Table C set at 1.50m. It was a technical course of 14 fences including a closed bank double X2 (8a, b and 9a, b) with 33 starters.

12 Sept 2010 Sunday is the big day at Spruce Meadows with mild weather and near perfect jumping conditions. Only two jumping classes, The Suncor Energy Cup, Table C in the All Canada ring at 9am designed by Guilherme Jorge from Brazil and the CN International Grand Prix at 12 mid-day in the International ring. The CN is a two round Table A competition over two different but equally technical courses. Total prize money C$1,000,000. There was no room for error resulting in four clear out of 30 starters in the first round. Of the 12 in round two there were no clear rounds with the winner, Jeroen Dubbeldam of the Netherlands, having one time fault.
Conclusion: Spruce Meadows lived up to its reputation as a world class show and venue. Some 300 trade stands, many other horse competitions, bands and parades. Management is superb from entry to the grounds, competition schedules, start programs and results.
