Finally the two travellers are catching up with technology to keep friends up to date with travels and not bore you with trivia. If you want more ask the question.
The flight out from Auckland direct to Vancouver was simple and relaxed. Boarded in the evening, had dinner, slept and had breakfast then disembarked at Vancouver (before we started).
The first night was at a local hotel then next morning took the ferry to Vancouver Island. Do not need to book, just drive up to the multi-lane park, pay and drive on when indicated. If full the next one is soon available.
Victoria on the Island is the capital of British Columbia, has a few historic building and was a chance to buy a few neccessities like food, a cooler (chillie bin) to keep it in and gas for the cooker. Accommodation was the "Quality Inn Waddling Dog", very ordinary but sereved the purpose near to Butchart Gardens, the purpose of the visit to Vancouver Island. Ray mucked it up some years ago so Kath insisted it was first on the visit list this time. Well worth the visit. Started over 100 years ago by Jennie Butchart in an old quarry that her husband had extracted limestone for a cement works nearby.
