North Devon, 2014

From Dartmoor we traveled to north Devon in the Exmoor near the village of Exford near where there were two Hunts, one Staghound kennels and the other Foxhound kennels.  We were kindly permitted to visit and interestingly found both packs of hounds were much of the same size and stature.  However the way hunting is now pursued has been significantly curtailed by public pressure.  A fox may now be lurking - or laughing - close by!

An example of a Red Stag.  We did see a small group of younger deer on the moor.

Nearby on the coast the the small village of Lynmouth and immediately up the hill behind this village was Lynton at about treetop level in this view.  As well as road access to Lynton there was a cable car that operated from amongst these buildings.

The small port where pleasure craft were moored.  When the tide is out the boats rest on the sand.

An example of unique design on the harbour front.

Sandy beaches are few and far between and the gravel foreshore here is usual if it is not a rocky coast as further along.

What is it on the foreshore?  Some sort of shelter.  Maybe a war relic?

Lunchtime at a convenient picnic table.

In general the countryside was similar to areas further south.
